Mission Statement

The Town of Tilton's mission for conservation is to identify and establish the proper utilization and protection
of the natural resources as well as
the protection of watershed resources in our town.
We will, through our Conservation Commission, assist and advise the citizenry, property owners,
State of New Hampshire, and/or commissions with information relevant to the proper utilization of Tilton's
natural resources including but not
limited to establishing green space, choices in preservation

of farm land, and historical properties and  the protection of wetlands areas and water sources.

~ A conservation commission is the only local board in a NH town specifically charged to protect the natural resources of the municipality. ~

NH RSA 36:A

A town may establish a conservation commission for the proper utilization and
protection of the natural resources and for the protection of watershed resources in the town.

1. The commission shall conduct researches into the local land and water resources and shall seek to coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and may advertise, prepare, print, and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets, which in its judgment it deems necessary for its work.

2. It shall keep an index of all open space and natural, aesthetic or ecological areas within the town with the plan of obtaining information pertinent to proper utilization of such areas,  including lands owned by the state or lands owned by the town.

3. It shall keep an index of all marshlands, wetlands, swamps, and all other wet lands in a like manner, and may recommend to the selectmen a program for the protection, development, or better utilization of all such areas.

4. It shall keep accurate records of its meetings and actions and shall file an annual report which shall be printed in the annual town report.
